Duties & Responsibilities
Under general supervision, responsible for curriculum development and evaluation of Filipino Studies courses. Conduct course assessment and other assessment of instruction based on student learning outcomes and improve student learning based on results of assessment data.
Teach a range of Filipino Studies courses such as Introduction to Filipino Studies, Filipino Culture, History and the Arts, Filipinos in the United States: The History of Culture and Filipinos in the U.S., and Contemporary Philippine Issues.
Provide leadership and direction to implement and promote the Academic Subject Certificate (ASC) in Filipino Studies Program, collaborate with faculty members in cognate fields to consider curricular additions and/or modifications to the program, build a network of academic and community advisers for the program and perform related work as assigned.
Related work activities include, but are not limited to, advising and counseling students, assisting in campus-related student activities; participating in faculty/administrative committee, community service, and in-service training; maintaining an approved program of professional self-improvement, collecting data and preparing reports, preparing/adapting/revising course objectives as needed; independently planning, organizing, and carrying out instructional and non-instructional assignments. May include instructional assignments involving distance education, courses at Wai?anae Moku campus as well as Early College, or other satellite campuses.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s in Asian Studies (specialization in Philippine Studies); or
Master’s in a Philippine language with 9 credits of advance and/or graduate level coursework or research topic focused on Filipino area; or
Master’s in Ethnic or American Studies with at least 15 credits of advanced and/or graduate level coursework or research topic focused on Filipino areas; or
Master’s in any Humanities with at least 15 credits of advance and/or graduate level coursework or research topic focused on Filipino area; or
Bachelor’s in Ethnic Studies, Asian Studies, or Philippine Studies with at least 15 credits of advance and/or graduate level coursework or research topic focused on Filipino area and 3 years of related work experience.
Minimum qualifications (degrees and credits) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment.
