Job Summary:
Right Weigh Scale seeks a Field Service Technician/Trainee to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair scales, product inspection equipment, and dimensioning systems at customer sites and our Hayward office. This requires a self-motivated individual with strong technical and problem-solving skills, dedicated to excellent customer service. We value practical skills and will train motivated candidates with mechanical/technical aptitude and a positive attitude. Similar field technician experience is beneficial. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a 90 day training/probationary period. Key Responsibilities:
Travel independently to customer sites within our service area to perform scheduled and emergency service visits.
Install, configure, and commission scales and product inspection equipment.
Conduct routine preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity of equipment.
Diagnose complex technical problems and perform effective repairs.
Utilize diagnostic tools, schematics, and technical manuals to identify and resolve issues.
Provide technical support, basic operational training, and clear communication to customers regarding services performed and equipment status.
Complete detailed service reports, document work performed, and track parts usage accurately and promptly.
Maintain company vehicles, tools, and service inventory.
Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and regulations.
Communicate effectively with customers and staff members.
Provide feedback regarding product performance and customer needs.
Qualifications:
Required:
High School Diploma or GED.
2+ years of experience in a field service, maintenance, or similar hands-on technical role. Related technical experience will be considered.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills; must be willing and comfortable engaging directly with customers in a professional and helpful manner.
Strong command of the English language (both written and verbal).
Self-reliant and motivated, proactive, and able to manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
Valid Driver's License and a clean driving record. Must provide a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from the DMV upon request.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical examination, drug screening, and comprehensive background check.
Candidates must be in good physical condition and able to lift 50 lbs easily to meet the frequent heavy lifting requirements throughout the workday.
Proficient with basic smartphone and computer application systems.
Nice to Have’s:
Associate's/Bachelors/Technical Degree or Certification.
OSHA 10/30, Forklift, First Aid/CPR/AED certified.
Experience in the weighing or metrology industry.
Experience with PLC’s, HMI’s, and industrial equipment.
Multilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog) are a big plus.
Work Environment, Schedule & Travel:
This position requires extensive daily local travel, approximately 75% or more, primarily within a 100-mile radius of Hayward, CA.
Work is performed at various customer sites, which may include hospitals, factories, hazardous environments, and government facilities. Adaptability to diverse settings and conditions is necessary.
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Occasional overtime is required based on customer needs. Rare, but occasional Saturday work may be necessary.
Compensation, Benefits & Support:
Competitive hourly rate/salary commensurate with experience: Typically, $25/hour training wage. Increases with performance/training milestones.
