JOB PURPOSE
The Caseworker is an integral part of the Right to Counsel Program that works with Right to Counsel attorneys on case management of their respective clients' social service needs. The Caseworker may also work in collaboration with other EDC staff. Because we strive to be barrier-free and client-centered, the position requires individuals who truly enjoy working with people, have the skills and capacity to respond in an empathetic and respectful way to clients who are often in crisis, and can work effectively in a collegial and fast-paced environment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Services Duties {85%)

Provide direct support to clients across diverse settings, including clients’ residences, partner social service agencies, and court.

Facilitate client access to essential services, including housing assistance, medical and mental health care, and substance use treatment programs as needed.

Assist social worker in assessing client needs, identifying clients’ goals, and developing structured service plans to promote goal attainment for the client.

Assist clients in navigating and applying for public benefits programs and support their participation in hearings, appointments, and mediation sessions as necessary.

Collaborate closely with legal staff to align social service goals with legal case strategies and effectively communicate to clients how various interventions may positively influence their legal outcomes.

Provide case-related support in collaboration with Staff Attorneys
Administrative Duties (15%)

Participate actively in weekly program meetings, monthly organization-wide meetings, and all required supervision sessions.

Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely documentation of client interactions and case progress within the case management system.
Other duties as assigned.

Below are additional qualifications.

One (1) year of caseworker experience or relevant experience in a social service agency/institution.

Knowledge of or demonstrated experience with housing support, mental health or substance use providers in San Francisco County preferred.

Experience working with a diverse population including those with mental health/physical disabilities, substance use issues, and survivors of intimate partner violence.

Experience providing assistance in a variety of settings preferred: clients’ homes and social service providers.

Fluency and ability to help clients in Spanish.

UNION
EDC staff are represented by the National Organization of Legal Services Workers (NOLSW, UAW Local 2320, AFL-CIO). This position is a union position and is subject to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position involves regular interaction with staff, supervisors, and union representatives in a collaborative, unionized workplace. The role may involve handling sensitive or confidential matters and requires a high level of professionalism, discretion, and cultural awareness. Strong communication skills and the ability to navigate interpersonal dynamics with empathy and fairness are essential.
EDC adheres to health and safety protocols established by the San Francisco Department of Public Health, the CDC, and federal and state OSHA requirements.
This is a hybrid role with an expectation to be on-site at least three (3) days per week, depending on the needs of the organization and of the HR and People Operations Team. EDC maintains a three-day in-office policy for all employees. Staff are expected to be available and responsive via email, phone, and video conferencing during standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) while working remotely, and to communicate with their supervisor when attending off-site meetings or obligations. Remote work equipment and an internet/utilities stipend are provided in accordance with the needs of the role and department.

DIRECT REPORTS
The Caseworker will not supervise any employee.
COMPENSATION
Pay Range: $31.25- $36.05 per hour (approximately $65,000.00–$75,000.00 annually), in accordance with the NOLSW-UAW Local 2320 and EDC Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Pay may be increased by $1,000 per year of relevant prior work experience (up to 10 years), as provided under the CBA for applicants hired into bargaining unit positions. This experience-based increase in pay applies only at the time of hire for external candidates entering bargaining unit positions.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable federal and state law.
EDC offers a Multilingual stipend of $125 per month ($1,500 per year) above the base rate, for specific roles that regularly use oral or written communication with clients or related parties, in Spanish, Tagalog, Cantonese, or Mandarin, in the performance of their regular job duties. This role is eligible for the multilingual stipend as oral and written communication with clients is regularly performed as part of the job duties of this position. To qualify for this stipend, the employee must pass an oral and/or written test approved by the Labor-Management Committee.
